Regional Service Opportunities
Below is a list of service partners with contacts for your House Church to get involved in serving the needs of our area.
Renucci House
Prepare and serve a meal to families that have loved ones staying at Spectrum Health. A group of 3-10 people prepare food and then eat with the families, talk with them, play with kids, etc. The total commitment is about 3 hours.

God’s Kitchen
Help serve a meal for the homeless and hurting in downtown Grand Rapids. A short training is required for one or two people in the group ahead of time. This is an on-going opportunity that can be done at any time.

North Kent Service Center
This is an emergency food pantry serving low-income families and families experiencing a crisis in northern Kent County. They also distribute clothing and household goods to their clients for free. A variety of opportunities include sorting donations, organizing the showroom floor, working at a fundraising event, and packing food boxes, infant layettes or holiday boxes.

Guiding Light Mission
A shelter serving the homeless and disadvantaged of Grand Rapids. Volunteer opportunities include serving meals, helping with general maintenance, mentoring men, tutoring those working towards a GED, leading a chapel service or Bible study, and collecting personal care items for the homeless and materials for the shelter.

Mel Trotter Ministries
Mel Trotter Ministries serves disadvantaged people in the West Michigan area through a Christ-centered, holistic program. They currently have the greatest need for volunteers for their meals program.

Second Harvest Gleaners
Second Harvest Gleaners is West Michigan’s regional nonprofit clearinghouse for saved and donated food. Volunteers are needed to sort donated food and re-organize it to be delivered to local shelters and churches.

One-on-One Mentoring
Programs are available through DA Blodgett and Pine Rest to mentor children, troubled teens and young mothers. The commitment varies by program but can be as often as once a week or once a month. Right now, there is a tremendous need in Kent County for mentors. There are over three hundred young people waiting to be linked at these two organizations alone.

Shepherds of Independence
This is a nonprofit, permanent supportive housing facility dedicated to housing and caring for the mentally and/or physically disabled adults. House Churches and their members are needed to talk, play games, and be a friend to residents.
