THE STORY OF REALITY:

How does Christianity make sense of evil, human dignity, and hope in a world that often feels broken? This 3-session interactive class based on the book, “The Story of Reality” explores how the Christian story explains the world as it really is – and why hope still prevails. Classes will be March 16, 23 and 30 from 6:30p-7:45p. (Stay after and discuss with your group if you’d like!)

DISCUSSION GUIDE: February 22 – Ron Aulbach

“Fan the Flame: Finding Grace in Hard Weeks”

LIFE:  How was your week? What was the high point and low point?

ENGAGE THE MESSAGE:

  1. Read 2 Timothy 1:6-14.
  2. Timothy is up against a lot of pressures… from the Roman emperor who hated Christians, the worship of other gods, even the community having issues between each other. What does Paul say to this in these verses?
  3. What do you normally do when you have a bad week? How do you turn around a bad week?
  4. Who do you know that likes fire? What does it take to move coals or a spark to full on fire?
  5. What does it mean to fan the flame in the context of 2 Timothy 1:6? How can you fan into flame the gifts God has?
  6. What are your spiritual gifts? How is God using them? Are there areas you are holding back from using them? What would it look like to grow these gifts?
    1. Giftstest.com is a tool to help identify your gifting, it’s not fool proof but helpful in starting the conversation.

MAKE DISCIPLES:  What gifts do you see in the members of your group/family/friends? How can you affirm these gifts in them and encourage them as well?
