MAKING SENSE OF A BROKEN WORLD CLASS:

How does Christianity make sense of evil, human dignity, and hope in a world that often feels broken? This 3-session class explores The Story of Reality and shows how the Christian story explains the world as it really is—and why hope still prevails. Signups are coming out soon! Classes will be March 16, 23 and 30 from 6:30p-7:45p (stay after and discuss with your group if you’d like!)

DISCUSSION GUIDE: January 25 – Ron Aulbach

“Knocked Down a Notch”

LIFE:  What are your thoughts on Chili? Love all of it? Want none of it? Want something in the middle?

ENGAGE THE MESSAGE:

  1. Read Luke 18:9-14.
  2. What is wrong with the things that the Pharisee in this story is doing?  Compare these things to the tax collector’s behavior and prayer.
  3. Which one from the story do you identify with the most?
  4. Describe one way (big or small) in which you’ve felt entitled in the past.
  5. What does it look like to humble brag?
  6.  Would you ask someone close to you if they hear this in your life?  Are you afraid of the answers?
  7. Can you identify something that you can give over to God and give Him all the credit?
  8. In what ways can you counteract entitlement in your own life?

MAKE DISCIPLES:  Are you courageous enough to speak truth into others’ lives?  When asking others to evaluate your life for signs of entitlement, be sure to offer to partner with them in truth and love.
