THE STORY OF REALITY:

How does Christianity make sense of evil, human dignity, and hope in a world that often feels broken?  This 3-session interactive class based on the book, “The Story of Reality” explores how the Christian story explains the world as it really is – and why hope still prevails.  Classes will be March 16, 23 and 30 from 6:30p-7:45p.   (Stay after and discuss with your group if you’d like!)

DISCUSSION GUIDE: February 8 – Mike Antuma

“Rich Towards God”

LIFE:  Do you try to make winter “getaway” plans this time of year, or do you love Michigan winter activities?

ENGAGE THE MESSAGE:

    1. Read Luke 12:13-23, 34.
    2. In Luke 12:13, what do you imagine is going on between the person in the crowd and the brother?  Use James 4:1-2 to help in your assessment.
    3. What is the “Myth of More”?
    4. Jesus warns us to be on guard against all kinds of greed.  Name some types of greed with which you have struggled.
    5. Verse 21 speaks of being “rich for God”.  Pastor Mike listed three ways to check your life in being rich for God:  tithing, serving, and training.  What are some ways you are practicing these?  Can you identify gaps in your life where you would like to improve?
    6. In verses 22 and 23, how does worry fit into the Myth of More?
  • Read Proverbs 14:30.
  1. How does this verse relate to Luke 12:34?  Where does your heart of peace come from?

MAKE DISCIPLES:  Name one specific way you can be rich for God in the “training” of others this week.
