DISCUSSION GUIDE: November 23 – Ron Aulbach

“When Life’s Not Fair”

LIFE:  How do you feel about mice? Or rats?

ENGAGE THE MESSAGE:

    1. Read Genesis 39:1-20.
    2. How do you view reading the Old Testament? What difference could it make if we read it as intended – looking for Jesus and knowing it is written for you but not to you?
    3. What is the difference between a prescriptive reading of the Bible and a descriptive reading?
    4. Share a story of how your faith, or someone else’s faith, worked in an unfair place.
    5. When temptation knocks at your door, how does Joseph’s response in Genesis 39:9 help you? (“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”)
    6. What boundaries can you see that Joseph has set for himself? What boundaries do you have in place to honor God?  Are there boundaries you would wish to add?
    7. Read 1 Corinthians 10:13.
    8. What does the statement “Faithfulness to God is the long game” mean to you?
    9. Challenge: Memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13.

MAKE DISCIPLES:  How can you encourage others to remain faithful to God in unfair places?
